The Veuve Clicquot Gold Cup Polo Final is a great day out.  It is the climax of the British Open Polo Championship, the tournament that every polo patron wants to win.  It has been a highlight of the social season since 1956.  The polo is fast and furious but the people watching is every bit as good.

For those that know nothing about polo but might be interested here is a brief guide by Debretts to polo and its etiquette as well as an overview of the rules of polo.  One fun tradition is the treading in of divots at half time, which is where all the spectators come onto the pitch and tread back in the grass kicked up by the ponies’ hooves – here is a little YouTube clip of divot treading – everyone does it even Her Majesty the Queen!

You can bring your own picnic, but you don’t have to as there will be food stalls and bars on site on the day.  The setting is exquisite; Cowdray Park Polo Club is set in the midst of the South Downs National Park an hour and a half south of London.

Gates open at 10am and the bars close at 10pm – the main match of the day takes place at 3.30pm.  If you want to buy tickets in advance (rather than on the gate) you can do so here.  There are plenty of things to do and see at the ground – the whole ‘show’ including the ‘shopping village’  is being organised by Hodgson Events and you can find out more about the whole event here.

Just to whet your appetite here are two of the peices that we will be bringing.  The one is a rare, large, Russian Fire Black Pyritised Ammonite the other an exquisite display of Candle Quartz Crystal.

We look forward to seeing you there … and let’s hope for good weather!
