From sumptuous deep royal purples to delicate lilac amethyst is just lovely for jewellery but I love it in it natural form in Geodes especially when in conjunction with agate.

Amethyst and Agate Sphere

Some of my geodes and indeed also this lovely orb illustrate this fascinating partnership.

Amethyst Geode

Amethyst is a variety of quartz. The name comes from Greek which means not intoxicated as it was believed that the stone protected its owner from drunkenness. Indeed ancient Greeks and Romans, apart from wearing it as an ornament, would make drinking vessels from Amethyst for this reason.

I have a number of different Amethyst geodes available in stock.

Amethyst with Agate Pendantaboutamethyst004Amethyst is used in jewellery but not many crystals are suitable for this use, whereas polished stones for use as beads or pendants are more common.

Amethyst is found in many countries but Brazil has some fine examples as does Uruguay and Russia.
